I get that the tour wants to protect its players, but the secrecy around fines and suspensions is ridiculous. We just had the whole slow play fines announcement and nobody knows who got fined or how much. How are fans supposed to take the policy seriously when there's zero transparency?
Compare it to other sports. NBA players get fined all the time and we know the amounts. MLB suspends guys and we know why. The PGA Tour? It's all behind closed doors. Remember when they "suspended" a player for a year and never said who or why? That was a joke.
I'm not saying we need a public shaming list, but some basic disclosure would go a long way. Like, just tell us: "Player X was fined $10k for slow play." That's it. It would show the tour actually enforces its rules. Right now it feels like a good ol' boys club where everything gets swept under the rug.
And don't get me started on the vague "conduct unbecoming" clause. That could mean anything. I've heard rumors about players getting fined for stuff they said to rules officials, but we never get confirmation. It's like the tour is afraid of looking bad.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I think transparency would actually help the tour's image. It would show they're serious about enforcing rules and not just protecting their stars. What do you all think? Should the tour be more open about fines and suspensions?
