So I was playing a local league this week and they pushed this mandatory live scoring app update. Honestly, I don't get the hype. It's just a bunch of digital pin placements and 'birdie alerts' flying around. Like, what is the actual point of knowing Greg from accounting just 50 yards out where the ball landed during a rough patch? It's just bloat.
But the real kicker is the data they're pulling. It's not just the score; it's GPS tracking of every shot, the time you spend on the course, even the rough percentage on certain holes, according to the app's internal metrics. It feels like they're building some kind of complete player profile. Ngl, it's wild.
It makes me think about how everything is being digitized. It's always just another thing that needs an API integration or a mandatory cloud sync. For us trying to keep things low-key, you know, operate without these insane amounts of digital paper trails, this whole mandatory connectivity thing is a headache. It reminds me of trying to run any sort of legitimate freelance work or find a stable crypto payment method when everything is so focused on KYC and bank verification. They want the data, and the data comes from the app.
I mean, if you're not using it, you can't play. It's like they're building some kind of comprehensive surveillance network disguised as a fun social feature. I guess I get why they push it, but it's just an invasion of privacy disguised as 'modern golf.' Anyone else feeling this data grab vibe from the league overlords, or am I being too paranoid?
