So I've been battling the chicken wing for years. You know the move: right elbow flies out at impact, left arm breaks down, and you end up with that awful scooping flip. My irons were fat, thin, everything. I tried the towel drill, the headcover under the right armpit, all of it. Nothing stuck.
Then a buddy told me to try something stupid simple: just feel like you're keeping your right elbow pointed at your right hip through impact. Not tucked, just pointed down. And oh my god. First range session, I'm flushing everything. Like, pure, compressed, divots after the ball. I couldn't believe it.
The weird part is it's not about holding the angle or anything. It's just a direction. My right elbow stays closer to my body without me forcing it. And my left arm stays straight because it has to. No more chicken wing.
Has anyone else tried this? Or is it just a band-aid for a bigger issue? I'm scared it's a feel that'll disappear next week. And if you've got a drill to make it stick, please share!
