Been a steel guy my whole life. Dynamic Gold S300, then Modus 120 for the last six or seven years. Played to a 9 last season, no real complaints about my irons at all.
Then my right elbow started barking in June. Not sharp pain, just this dull ache that hung around for a day or two after every range session. Doctor called it mild tendonitis, told me to rest and ice. I'm 45, I play twice a week, resting isn't really in the cards.
A buddy who fits out of a shop near me tossed me some demo heads to hit. Recoil 95 F4, then MMT 105 stiff, then Steelfiber i95. Honestly the MMT felt closest to my Modus in terms of kick, just softer on the joints. Weirdly I hit the Recoil 95 a touch higher and about 4 yards longer, which I did not expect from a shaft I assumed would spin more. Dispersion was basically a wash once I got past the first range session. First 20 balls I was all over the face because everything felt so light, but by the end of the bucket it clicked.
Ended up ordering the MMT 105s. Two months in and the elbow is quiet. Ball flight is maybe half a club higher and I've picked up a couple yards, mostly on the long irons, which I'll take. I know graphite still carries that "senior shaft" stigma in some circles but that's just not the reality anymore. Plenty of guys on tour are in some kind of composite now.
Anyone else make the jump and stick with it? I keep wondering if I'm giving up a little feel on partial wedges, ngl the first few weeks I missed that heavy Modus thump on little knockdown shots. Curious if that's just me being sentimental or if you actually feel it.
