Sweetens Cove TN day trip - worth the 6 hour drive?

So my buddy bailed on a golf trip next month and now I'm sitting here with a free weekend and a dumb idea. Sweetens Cove. I keep seeing it on every list, the whole "9 holes that play like 18" thing, and it's like a 6 hour drive from me.

Anyone actually been? I know it's basically a field with a shed and you pay one rate for all day, no clubhouse, no carts, pack your own beers. That part sounds awesome. But 6 hours each way for 9 holes feels nuts unless the place is really that good.

Also do people loop it twice or just play until their legs quit? And is there anything worth hitting nearby so it's not a 12 hour round trip for one course?

I'm not a great player if that matters. Handicap is probably like 22 on a good day. Worried I'll just lose a dozen balls in the fescue and be grumpy about the drive home.
