so my rangefinder died on the 14th hole today. Bushnell V4, battery just crapped out mid round. No spare in the bag (rookie mistake). I was +7 through 13, playing like garbage, and honestly kinda pissed.

Decided to just say eff it and play by feel. Used the sprinkler heads and my eyes. And holy crap, I shot -1 on the last 5 holes. Best stretch of golf in months!!

I think I was getting too obsessed with exact yardages. 147 vs 150? Who cares. Just hit the damn club. My tempo was better, no paralysis by analysis. Even chipped one in from off the green.

Anyone else play better when they ditch the tech? Or am I just crazy? I'm seriously considering leaving the rangefinder at home next round. Maybe even going old school with a yardage book. Let me know your thoughts!

Ha, funny timing. I just bought my first rangefinder last month after playing by feel for like two years, and it's been the opposite for me. I'd guess 150, grab the 8, come up 15 yards short every time. My scoring actually got better once I had a real number.

But the tempo thing I totally get. When I'm not staring at a screen before every shot I swing way smoother. Sprinkler heads only work if the course has decent markers though. What course were you on? Half the munis near me don't bother.

Also genuine question, did you know you were -1 during that run or only realize it after? I play way better when I stop doing math in my head. Maybe that's the actual magic, not the missing rangefinder.
