Projector for garage sim, what am I actually looking for?

Finally got my garage sim mostly together (net, mat, R10) and now I want to actually watch the ball fly instead of squinting at my phone after every swing.

Thing is I know nothing about projectors. Do I need 4K or is 1080p plenty? Is lumens the thing that matters most? My garage has one sad fluorescent bulb and I can't really black it out, so I'm worried about washing the image out.

Also, do you mount it behind you or in front of you? Every YouTube setup I watch looks different and none of them explain it.

Budget is around $400-600 which I'm guessing is the cheap end. Anyone running a budget projector want to share what you've got and whether it's bright enough?

Front projection, definitely. Projector goes above and slightly in front of you, throwing forward at the screen. The "behind you" setups you're seeing are usually rear projection, which needs a whole separate room behind the screen. Not happening in a garage.

And honestly, at your budget I'd stop worrying about 4K. 1080p is fine. Lumens is the thing when you can't kill that fluorescent. Used business projectors (Epson, Panasonic) are stupid bright for the money, like 3000+ lumens, just ugly and loud. Short throw matters too if your garage isn't deep.

What's your ceiling height and how far is the screen from where you stand? That'll narrow it down fast.
