So my buddy dared me to do this and I figured why not. One club, one putter, nine holes. Shot 41 which is honestly only 4 worse than my normal score with a full bag lol.
Here's the thing that blew my mind. With no other clubs to fiddle with, I couldn't blame the club. Couldn't fiddle with ball position for a 5 iron vs a 7 iron vs a wedge. Just one setup, one motion, over and over. And by hole 4 I was flushing it. Like actually compressing the ball, divot after the ball, the whole deal.
The constraint forced me to feel tempo instead of positions. I wasn't thinking about shallowing or lag or shaft lean or any of the stuff we obsess over in here. I was just trying to hit the ball somewhere near the green without embarrassing myself.
Turns out when you stop micro-managing every joint the swing just kind of... happens? I know that sounds like golf cliche garbage but I swear there's something to it. I hit a 7 iron from 155 to about 8 feet on hole 7 and I have never in my life hit a 7 iron that pure with a full bag in my hands. Not once.
Going out again Sunday with the same setup. Curious if it holds up or if it was just a fluke day.
Anyone else ever done the one club challenge? Did it actually carry over to your real game or did you go right back to spraying it everywhere once you got the full set back?
