So our league finally started a hole-in-one pot this season and it's already at $212, which is way more than I figured it'd get to by July. 38 guys in the league, 30 of them are in the pot at $5 a week. Do the math, it adds up fast.
Here's how ours runs in case anyone wants to steal the format: money only pays out for an ace during league play, any of the four par 3s. Full pot for a weekly round, half pot for a tourney (other half goes to the closest-to-pin pot, which honestly feels backwards to me but whatever, we voted). And if nobody cashes by the last week, we do a putt-off on the practice green for 25% and roll the rest into next season.
We've had two guys hit the flagstick this year. Two! One of them lipped out on 7 and sat down on the tee box for a solid minute. I've never felt worse for another human being on a golf course.
The arguing has already started though. Guy in B flight jarred one on a Tuesday practice round and wanted to know if it counted. It doesn't, it's literally the first line of the rules we voted on, but he's been salty about it for three weeks now. And about half the league thinks we should just pay out the pot every year if nobody aces instead of rolling it over. No. Rolling it over is the entire point. That's how you get a $600 pot and a story people talk about for a decade.
Curious what other leagues do. Do you split it if two guys ace in the same season? Ours says first one takes all and ngl I think that's going to cause a fistfight someday.
