So our league finally got a pace of play policy this season. 4:15 max, one warning, then a stroke penalty per group per hole over. Sounded fine on paper.
Sunday we had a group finish in 4:38. Turns out the group in front of them was the problem, they waited on basically every tee from 9 onward. They still ate the penalty because the policy is per group, not per cause. One of the guys lost the net payout by a single stroke. He was not happy. Like, yelling in the parking lot not happy.
I get it, slow play is brutal and our rounds were creeping past 4:30 every week. But penalizing the group that's stuck behind a logjam feels backwards. Shouldn't the group holding everyone up be the one on the clock? We had a marshal out there for like 3 holes and then he disappeared.
Anyone else's league enforce this? Did it actually speed things up or just create a new argument every Sunday?
