So our Wednesday night league (24 guys, 9 holes, $20 buy-in) rolled out a $10 no-show fee this season. Miss your tee time without 24 hours notice and it gets tacked onto next week's entry. That's the whole rule.
First two weeks were fine. Then last week a guy's kid got sick, he texted the organizer at 5:40 for a 6:00 tee time, and got dinged anyway. He went off in the group chat. Half the league backed him, half said rules are rules. Now there's a petition going around to scrap it and the organizer is talking about stepping down, which is nuts because he's the only reason this thing runs at all.
I get both sides on this. We had three no-shows in one night earlier in the year and it left two twosomes playing alone plus a group of three, which throws off the whole card and slows everything down. That part is real. But $10 because your kid spiked a fever feels harsh, and demanding 24 hours notice on a weeknight league where half of us have jobs that run late is a big ask. Personally I'd vote for a three-strike warning system before any money changes hands. Give people a season-long leash, then start charging.
Curious what other leagues do here. Flat fee? Warnings? Just eat it and let the organizer shuffle groups on the fly? Our guy is ready to walk and nobody else wants his job, so this could get ugly fast.
