So our league just dropped a bomb: they're switching the end-of-season playoff to a horse race format! Instead of sudden death, it's like 10 players start, and after each hole the highest score gets eliminated (or tied highest, they do a chip-off). It keeps going until one player is left. Sounds nuts, right?!
I watched one last year at a neighboring club and the chip-off on the 3rd hole took like 15 minutes because nobody could get it close. Total pace killer. But the drama was unreal. Every shot felt like match point.
Has anyone here actually played in one? What's the strategy? Do you play conservative early or try to make birdies to stay safe? And how do they handle handicaps? Ours is scratch, which seems brutal for higher handicaps. Any tips would be awesome. I'm already nervous and it's months away.
