I'll say the quiet part out loud. Half the "demoed X irons, forgiveness sneaky good?" threads on here are just guys shopping for a feeling, not for strokes.
Hear me out. I spent most of last season convinced my i210s were the thing holding me back. So I did the whole dog and pony show. Hit everything, got fit twice, walked out with a shiny new set of hollow-body players distance irons with jacked lofts. Two months later? My scores were the same. 88 on a good day, 94 when the driver misbehaves. Same as the old sticks. The new 7 iron went 12 yards further, which sounds amazing until you realize I now have a 40 yard gap between my pitching wedge and my gap wedge and I'm standing over a 150 yard shot with a club I've never trusted in my life.
Here's the part nobody wants to admit. I didn't get better at golf. I got better at talking about golf. I knew my spin numbers, my smash factor, my descent angle. Couldn't hit a 30 yard pitch to save my life.
And yes, I'm fully aware I'm the guy on this forum who's posted like four "demoed" threads this year. That's the joke. I'm not above it, I'm just finally seeing it.
Not saying fittings are useless or that tech hasn't improved. It has. But the gap between a 2015 GI iron and a 2025 GI iron is a lot smaller than the gap between my practice habits and a guy who actually grinds three times a week. We buy clubs because it's fun and it feels like progress. It's not.
So what actually moved the needle for you guys? Was it the clubs, or was it the range sessions? Be honest.
