Brought my irons in to get regripped last month and the guy at the shop asked when I'd last had my lies checked. Answer: never. I've had these since 2019 and it genuinely never crossed my mind.
So he puts them on the gauge and it's a horror show. My 7 iron was 2.5 upright from where it started, the 5 iron was a degree flat, and the wedges were all over the place. Which... how? I've never hit off concrete. He said it's just years of range mats plus me digging trenches with the toe. Apparently these heads do move more than people think.
The part that actually got me was the dynamic lie test. Sharpie line on the ball, hit it, look at the mark. Mine was way toward the heel and angled, so I was toe up at impact even though the static numbers said something totally different. My miss has always been a low pull-draw and I'd spent three years blaming my grip and my takeaway. Nope. The club was just coming in too upright and shutting the face.
Got them bent 1 flat across the board, which felt like a lot when he said it out loud. Took them out Saturday and hit 11 greens. I normally live around 7 or 8. Felt like I was cheating and I didn't change a single thing about my swing.
All in it was $40 for the set plus the regrips. Cheapest thing I've ever done to my bag, easily.
So how often do you all get yours checked? I'm trying to figure out if this was a one-time thing from 6 years of neglect or if I should be doing it every season like the shop guy told me. He's obviously got a reason to say yes.
