Got fitted for a mallet and my lag putting got worse

Went in for a putter fitting back in March. Guy puts me on Quintic, tells me my old Anser style blade is fighting my stroke, my face is open at impact, all that. Walked out with a Spider X, slant neck, 34 inches, way heavier head than anything I've ever rolled. For reference I'm a 9 and lag putting is usually the only thing keeping me under 85.

First two weeks on the practice green it felt unreal. Ball came off dead online, short putts were automatic.

Then I actually played golf.

Anything over 30 feet I'm either leaving it 5 short or blowing it 4 past. With my old blade I could feel the head the whole way and my speed was honestly fine. Now it's like swinging a hammer with no feedback at all. My 3 putts went from maybe 1.5 a round to 4. Shot 87 last weekend and I swear 5 of those strokes were just lag putting.

The annoying part is 4-8 feet has never been better. So now I'm stuck. Keep the mallet and live with the lags, or go back to the blade and give up the thing that's actually working?

I know it's probably me and not the putter but I'm 3 months in and it hasn't clicked. Anyone made the switch back to a blade and regretted it? Or did you find a mallet that actually gives you some feel?
