Dropped $150 on an indoor fitting last month because it's literally the only place within 90 minutes of me that has a Trackman and a decent shaft matrix. Trackman bay, brand new Pro V1x's, fitter feeding me balls on a mat. Went in with DG S300 in some old MP-32s and walked out with JPX 923 Forged, KBS Tour 120 stiff, 2 flat, plus a quarter inch.

On the sim I was carrying 6 iron 182 with like 6200 spin and a little baby draw every single time. Dispersion was tight enough that I almost felt bad for the fitter having nothing to fix. Felt like I finally cracked it.

Then I played Saturday on actual turf. Chunked three irons in a row on the 4th, block-sliced one into the trees on 7, and my 8 iron went 118 yards on a full swing. Same swing, same guy, same clubs. The mat was feeding me a lie angle and a low point that the ground refuses to give me. Fat shots on a mat just... bounce into the ball. On grass you dig a trench and lose 30 yards.

I'm not blaming the fitter, he did his job with what he had. But fitting indoors on mats for irons feels like a scam adjacent situation. Anyone actually get fit on grass? There's a place 3 hours away that does outdoor fittings for $300 and I'm seriously considering it, but I want to know if it's actually worth the drive before I burn a whole day.
