So I finally made the drive out to Brewster last weekend. 3 hours from Spokane, middle of nowhere, nothing but sagebrush and then suddenly you're standing on a tee box looking at 80 yard wide fairways and the Columbia River. Place is unreal.
But here's the thing. I go to pay the green fee at the pro shop, card gets declined. Twice. Get a text from my bank 30 seconds later asking me to confirm a "gambling transaction." Because the merchant name on the statement literally reads GAMBLE SANDS. I had to call them, sit on hold for 11 minutes, explain that a golf course in Washington state is not an offshore sportsbook. Meanwhile there's a guy behind me in line watching the whole thing. Humiliating.
Anyway, the golf. Greens were rolling maybe 10.5, fairways firm, wind was 15-20 out of the south which made the back nine a completely different course than the front. Fescue is thick right now, I lost two balls that I watched land in play. The Sandbox short course is worth the extra $50, I don't care what anyone says. And Scarecrow (the new Kidd course) is opening in phases, they had a few holes visible from the clubhouse and it looks mean.
Shot 88 with three doubles. Would've been 82 if I could putt. Not a complaint about the course, that's just me being me.
Anyone else get their card frozen at a pro shop because of the course name? Feels like a very specific curse. My bank has now flagged this, a Streamsong trip in March, and somehow a Topgolf. I'm this close to just carrying cash for every tee time and I hate carrying cash.
Also for what it's worth this one played way harder than the Torrey South round I posted about earlier this year, at least for my game. Different kind of hard though.

More of my writeups are in Course Reviews if anyone wants to compare notes on the sandhills stuff.
