So I'm trying to plan a French Lick trip for late september and I keep going back and forth on it. Has anyone actually been?
The draw for me is the Donald Ross course. I played Pinehurst No 2 last year and now I'm chasing that Ross feeling forever. There's a thread on here about Pinehurst post US Open that scared me a little about conditions, but I still loved every second of it.

Anyway. French Lick has the Ross course AND the Pete Dye course. The Dye one looks insane, all those elevated tees over the valley. But I read it's like $350+ in season and a caddie is basically required? Is that true? I've never paid that much for a round in my life and I'm worried I'll play terrible and waste it lol.
Also the resort itself, is it kind of dated? I keep seeing mixed stuff. Some people say the hotel is amazing, others say it's stuck in 2008. The casino part doesn't matter to me, I don't gamble at all.
Bigger issue: it's a 6 hour drive for us and I have a 20 gallon tank with a betta and some cory cats and I'm already stressed about leaving them for 4 days. Do I get an autofeeder or do I just not go? Kidding. Mostly. Has anyone done a trip and left fish behind? Did they survive?? I'm genuinely worried about this.
And then there's Kiawah, because everyone tells me Kiawah is the bucket list. But that thread made it sound kind of overhyped for the money.

So French Lick vs saving up for Kiawah? Or is that not even a fair fight. idk what I'm doing honestly. I just want a fall trip where the leaves are changing and I don't spend $2000.
