I've been lurking here for a few months and I've noticed something. Every single drill thread follows the same pattern: someone tries a drill, and their irons get worse. Skulling, fatting, thinning, hooking. It's like a broken record.
Not gonna lie, I fell into the trap too. I've been playing for about 15 years, never took a lesson, just figured it out. My iron game has always been decent, not great but I can hit greens. Then I read about the 9-3 drill and thought I'd give it a shot. Big mistake. Within a week I was skulling everything. Couldn't hit a 7 iron to save my life. Went back to my old swing and it took another week to get back to normal.
So here's my take: drills are like medicine. A little can help, but too much will make you sick. And most of you are self-diagnosing. You see a YouTube video, try the drill, and when it doesn't work you try another. That's not practice, that's chaos.
I'm not saying drills are useless. But if you're going to do one, do it with a purpose. Pick one thing, work on it for a month, and actually film yourself. Or better yet, get a lesson. A pro will tell you what you actually need to fix instead of you guessing.
Anyway, just my two cents. Has anyone here actually improved their irons from a drill? Or is it all just a rabbit hole?
