Pulled the 50 out of my bag last week and honestly I haven't missed it even a little.
I've been carrying 46/50/54/58 for like 3 seasons. Classic 4 wedge setup. But I actually sat down and thought about my last 5 rounds and I used the 50 maybe twice a round, both times from 95-105 out. Everything inside 80 yards is either the 54 or the 58. That's it. Two clubs doing all the work while the 50 rides along like a spare tire.
Meanwhile I'm standing on 200 yard par 3s hitting a 5 iron like it's 2005 lol.
So I dropped the 50, threw a 3 hybrid back in, and my short game already feels less cluttered. Fewer options = fewer ways to talk myself into the wrong club standing over the ball. Played Saturday and went 6/9 on up and downs which for me is basically the Masters.
But now I'm second guessing myself. What happens the first time I get a 95 yard shot to a front pin and I've gotta take something off a 54? Am I gonna wish I had it back?
Genuinely curious if anyone else has gone down to 3 wedges and stuck with it, or if you all went back. What's your loft setup actually look like?
