Alright, figured I'd finally do the official intro thing instead of just lurking in the equipment threads arguing about spin.
Dave, 41, live about 15 minutes from the Indiana Dunes. Grew up playing the munis up here (Michigan City Municipal, mostly) and now I split most of my rounds between Sand Creek and Lost Marsh, with the occasional charity scramble at some course I've never seen and play like a 30 handicap. Currently sitting at a 9.4 index, which is a lie, my last three rounds were 78, 86, 84. Golf.
The dunes area gets slept on for golf, tbh. The sand is real, the wind off Lake Michigan is real, and the fescue will eat a ball whole if you look at it wrong. Lost Marsh in particular just beats you up on a windy day. Balls roll forever if the ground is hard and then stop dead in the rough. There's no in between.
Anyway, the reason I picked this name. I have this thing where I play every dogleg as a dogleg. I know everyone else pulls 3 wood and just tries to fly the corner, and I've watched buddies do that and end up in the trees or in somebody's backyard. So I hit the fade, work it around the bend, take my 8 iron in. Boring golf. Birdies though. Made three in a row on the back at Sand Creek last month doing exactly that and my playing partner called me a coward. I shot 79 that day, so, coward's 79 I guess.
The one I can't solve is the 6th at my home muni. Sharp left bend, big oak at the corner, and the fairway pinches right where my natural ball flight wants to land. If I hit driver I'm through the fairway. If I lay back I've got 190 in and I hate 190 in. So what's the dogleg that owns you on your home track? And are you a cutter or do you just take the long way around?
