So my regular group is planning a fall trip and one guy keeps sending itineraries with 36 holes a day. Every day. Four straight days.
We did this once at Bandon back in 2021. Played Pacific in the morning, then went straight to Trails after a "lunch" that was really just a hot dog and a beer. Shot 84 in the morning, 97 in the afternoon, and by 16 I was swinging with my arms only. Fun? Sure. Worth it? I'm not so sure.
Here's my thing though. Everyone brags about the 36 hole days but nobody talks about day three. Day three is where the trip falls apart. Guys start fake injuries, someone "forgets" their shoes in the car, somebody's back magically acts up. Next thing you know you're paying $250 for a round two guys skip to sit at the bar.
My take: 18 a day, one 36 day max, and use the leftover time for a real dinner and actual sleep. You're on vacation. Your swing doesn't care how many rounds you logged.
But let me play devil's advocate on myself. The 36 guys say they'd rather be wrecked and have four extra rounds of memories than feel fresh and miss out. Hard to argue with that. So what's your group doing, two a day or one and done?
