So I've been struggling with the top of my bag for years. 3 wood? Can't hit it off the deck. Hybrid? Hook city. Driving iron? Not enough launch. I'm a 12 handicap with a driver swing speed around 95 mph, so I need help getting the ball up.
Finally broke down and demoed the Ping G430 Max 7 wood last weekend. 21 degrees, stock Alta CB shaft in regular. Holy crap. This thing is a cheat code. Launches high but doesn't balloon. Spin is in that Goldilocks zone, enough to stop on greens but not so much that it balloons into the wind. I was carrying it about 200 yards, which is perfect for me. And it's stupid forgiving. Toe hits still go straight. Heel hits still go straight. I literally tried to hit a slice and it went straight. What is this sorcery?
Feel is solid, not marshmallow soft but not harsh either. Sound is a nice thwack, not tingy. I've tried the Callaway Paradym 7 wood and the Titleist TSR2 7 wood, and this one is just easier. Maybe it's the shallow face? I don't know.
Anyone else gaming a 7 wood? Am I late to the party? And if you've tried the G430 Max, did you go with the stock shaft or something else? I'm seriously considering dropping my 3 hybrid for this.
