I'm so sick of this. Every time I have a simple chip from the fringe, I get over the ball and my brain says "don't hit it too hard" and then I just... quit on it. The club decelerates through impact and the ball goes like 3 feet. It's infuriating.
Today I had a chip from just off the green, maybe 10 yards to the pin, and I decelerated so bad the ball didn't even reach the fringe. My playing partner just looked at me. I wanted to throw my wedge in the pond.
Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you do to fix it? I've tried the "accelerate through" thought but then I blade it across the green. There's got to be a middle ground. I've also tried choking down, putting the ball back in my stance, using a putting stroke, but the decel gremlin comes back. I'm a 12 handicap and my short game is the only thing keeping me from single digits. Help!
