So I've been quietly obsessed with Cabot for like three years now and I'm finally trying to pull the trigger for late September. Cliffs + Links, four nights in Inverness, the whole thing. Nobody in my regular group will commit because of the drive, so I need someone here to either talk me into it or save me from myself.

Here's my rough plan. Fly into Halifax, rent a car, drive the ~3.5 hrs up to Cape Breton. Two rounds at Cliffs, two at Links, squeeze in the Nest if the legs hold up. I keep reading that late Sept is when the foliage pops and the midges are mostly done, which is honestly half the reason I picked that window over July. July at Cabot sounds like a bug convention with golf attached.

But the wind. Every trip report I read is either "life changing, cried on 16" or "played in a 40 mph gale and shot 104." My handicap is a soft 14 and it does NOT travel. Am I going to get absolutely humbled out there? Is there a smarter order (Links first to warm up, Cliffs second for the payoff)? Do I book caddies for all four rounds or just Cliffs?

Also does anyone know how late in the season they actually stay open and whether the twilight rates are worth gambling on weather? I'll take any and all intel. Especially from anyone who's done the drive from Halifax and can tell me if it's scenic or just four hours of me regretting my choices.
