So I've been fighting a two-way miss with my irons all season. Hooking, then blocking, then hooking again. Classic. And last week I grabbed my dad's old glove out of my bag by accident, it's a size XL and I normally wear a M/L. Figured whatever, it's range day.
Flushed everything. Like, everything. Wedges to 5 iron, dead center, tight little draw.
Now I know how this sounds. I know the drill threads on here always end with "irons worse now" (shoutout to the guy who made that thread, I felt that in my soul). But hear me out. A looser glove = lighter grip pressure for me. I've been strangling the thing for two years and didn't even know it. There's a thread here about grip pressure and I thought I was at like a 4 out of 10. Turns out with a normal glove I'm probably at an 8 and I'm too dumb to feel it.
Played 18 yesterday with the XL glove. 79. Best round of the year, and I left two putts dead in the jaws.
So now I have a dilemma. Do I actually just buy XL gloves forever and roll with it? Or do I fix the real problem, which is that I grip the club like it insulted my family? Because I know the loose glove is a band-aid. But man, it's a REALLY good band-aid.
Anybody else got a weird gear fix like this? Something that shouldn't matter but absolutely does?
