Everyone's losing their minds about the rollback and I'm sitting here thinking it can't get here fast enough. Fight me lol.
I watched the John Deere and the winning score was what, -22? Bombs away, flip wedge, one putt, repeat. That's not golf, that's a long drive contest with a scorecard attached. I don't care how far Bryson hits it. I care whether a guy can flight a 4 iron into a 15 mph crosswind and hold a green. That's the whole point of the game.
And before anyone says it, no I'm not anti-distance. I'm anti "every par 4 is driver-wedge and every par 5 is a par 4." Troon is gonna be the perfect test of this btw. If the wind blows, half these guys won't be able to keep it on the property.
The part that bugs me is the rollout, though. Rolling it back ONLY for the elite men is the worst of both worlds. Now the ball I play is different from the ball the pros play and we can't even compare ourselves to them anymore. That gap is the fun part of the sport.
Anyway. I know I'm in the minority on this one. Curious what the rest of you think, especially the older guys who remember persimmon.
